Robin Riley — Nonprofits, Technology, Civics, and Movements

Booster for the commons and obligate organizer 🌱

Robin Riley is a nonprofit executive and community organizer based in Petaluma, California, specializing in open source, web technology, civics, and civil rights.

Robin's background includes organizational development, governance, business operations, campaign management, program management, events, communications, marketing, and web development. She uses these skills and her network to help organizations and communities mature, put their best foot forward, and collaborate with each other.

Robin works independently through her consultancy, Open Chapters, and recently completed a 2-year full-time contract as Managing Director of The Matrix.org Foundation. She has previously worked for Tidelift, Google, and O'Reilly Media, among others.

Robin may be best known for her stabilizing and transformational leadership as board president at Open Source Initiative. At home, though, she's better recognized for her community organizing work across tech, electoral politics, civic engagement, and civil rights, such as through Petaluma Pride, North Bay Python, and the Hooper campaigns in 2022 and 2024.

Robin is also a small town cat parent. She's a queer, nonbinary, disabled person, and an outdoor enthusiast. A concert goer and forever student pilot. Someone who wants to be a good neighbor, and be a good ancestor, as part of living a good life.

You can find Robin on the Fediverse, Bluesky, and LinkedIn.
